Bouncy Castle Safety Inspections
Have you ever wondered what happens during an annual bouncy castle safety inspection? Take a behind-the-scenes look at the detailed checks carried out to help ensure our inflatables remain safe, compliant and ready for hire.
Annual Inflatable Safety Testing
Inflatables used for commercial hire should undergo a detailed inspection at least once every year. This helps confirm that the inflatable remains in a safe condition and continues to meet the relevant requirements of the British and European safety standard, BS EN 14960.
Our inflatables are inspected by a suitably qualified RPII inspector. RPII stands for the Register of Play Inspectors International, an organisation that provides training, examination and registration for inspectors working within the play and inflatable industry.
You may also hear annual inflatable inspections referred to as PIPA testing. PIPA is another widely recognised inspection scheme for inflatable play equipment. Both RPII inspections and PIPA inspections are commonly used within the UK inflatable hire industry to demonstrate that equipment has received an appropriate annual examination.
What Does an Inflatable Inspection Include?
-
Checking the inflatable’s overall condition and construction
-
Inspecting seams, stitching and internal components
-
Examining anchor points for wear, damage or weakness
-
Checking walls, beds, steps, netting and entrance areas
-
Looking for damage, deterioration or previous repairs
-
Measuring internal air pressure
-
Confirming the inflatable is stable and inflates correctly
-
Checking that safety information and identification markings are present
Each inflatable is carefully examined so that any wear, damage or potential safety concern can be identified.
Where an inspector identifies an issue, the inflatable may require repair or further assessment before it can be returned to service.
Safety Checks Before Every Hire
Annual testing is only one part of maintaining safe inflatable equipment. Our inflatables are also checked regularly by our own experienced team and visually inspected when they are installed for an event.
We check the condition of the inflatable, its anchor points, electrical equipment, blower, inflation and surrounding area before handing it over to the customer.
Why Annual Testing Matters
When hiring a bouncy castle or inflatable game, you should be confident that the equipment has been properly maintained and inspected. Annual testing provides important reassurance that the inflatable has been independently examined by a competent inspector and was found suitable for continued use at the time of inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should a bouncy castle be inspected?
A commercial inflatable should receive a detailed inspection at least once every 12 months. It should also be checked regularly by the hire company and inspected when it is installed.
What is an RPII inspection?
An RPII inspection is carried out by an inspector registered with the Register of Play Inspectors International. The inspection assesses the condition and safety of the inflatable against the applicable requirements.
What is a PIPA test?
PIPA is an inspection scheme used for inflatable play equipment. A PIPA-tagged inflatable can normally be checked through the scheme’s online database to confirm its current inspection status.
Is annual testing the only safety requirement?
No. Safe inflatable hire also depends on correct installation, suitable anchoring, appropriate supervision, safe wind conditions, regular maintenance and checks before use.
